Global Environment Outlook-5

This is a major contribution to the public understanding of the way ecosystems and the atmosphere are responding to patterns of unprecedented consumption and production.

The GEO-5 Summary for Policy Makers was negotiated and endorsed at an intergovernmental meeting from 29 to 31 January 2012 in the City of Gwangju, Republic of Korea.

The report highlights the role that local authorities can play in meeting internationally agreed goals and targets and in addressing local, regional and global environmental challenges.

The fifth edition of the Global Environmental Outlook (GEO-5), launched on the eve of the Rio+20 Summit, assessed 90 of the most-important environmental goals and objectives.

The time for action is now. Don’t wait until it is too late to make a difference! Change has to start with each of us.

The world is not on track to achieve the environmental dimension of the Sustainable Development Goals or other internationally agreed environmental goals by 2030
