(1) Agroecology is the integrative study of the ecology of the entire food system, encompassing ecological, economic and social dimensions. (2) An interdisciplinary field of knowledge involving a set of concepts and principles oriented towards the design and management of sustainable ecosystems. (3) An integrated approach that simultaneously applies ecological and social concepts and principles to optimize interactions between plants, animals, humans and the environment while addressing social aspects to achieve sustainable and fair agri-food systems.
